I’m a long time bball fan that has come to enjoy the women’s game more than the men’s. I think it’s because in the women’s game the players are incentivized to care - both about winning and their teammates. The men’s game seems to be all about money.

I appreciate your acknowledgement of the conflict between enjoying this sports moment and the dumpster fire that is the US right now. I watched 2 games in the tournament - ND until they were eliminated. I didn’t fill out a bracket. It’s the least I have participated in 15 years. Partially because it’s hard to find joy while our democracy and human rights are being dismantled. But also because of the misplaced value our society has placed in sports. The ridiculous $$ offered in compensation for both athletes and media. Meanwhile, the oligarchy (of which big corps like Nike and Coke are members) brought this nut job to power, and have jacked up the cost of living while keeping salaries stagnant. I. Just. Can’t. Anymore.

Being touched by the triumph (and, more often, heartbreak) of sports is never corny. The feelings are why we watch. Great stuff, as always!

Amazing writing. This championship was so emotional for so many reasons! Women's basketball is only going up.

I'm glad you've enjoyed it tbh.

"who weren’t paid or celebrated enough."

I'm pretty sure that the main issue is that the WNBA and NBA have massively different revenue & profit.
