When I was a kid, few things angered me more than walking into Reny’s department store (if you know, you know) in Camden, Maine, and seeing the Back To School section already set up in July. It wasn’t time yet! We weren’t even halfway through the glorious few months of freedom granted to us each year, and yet the shelves were already taunting me with Trapper Keepers and Lisa Frank folders.
Summer was, and always has been, sacred to me. When I was a kid, both sets of grandparents lived in Mid-Coast Maine, which is, in fact, how my parents met. I wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for this place.
